This policy explains what information Home Energy Decisions ("HEO Hub", "we", "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have when you visit our website and on-page tools.

What we collect

Information you provide

  • If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.

On-device tool inputs

  • Inputs you enter into our planners and estimators are stored in your browser's local storage so you can pick up where you left off. We do not receive these inputs unless you choose to share them with us.

Automatically collected information

  • Basic technical data from your browser (such as IP address, device type, operating system, browser, and pages visited) that our hosting provider logs for security and reliability.
  • Website analytics via Google Analytics 4 (when enabled), which uses cookies or similar technologies to measure page views, referrers, approximate location, and events.
  • Advertising data via Google AdSense (when enabled), which uses cookies or mobile ad identifiers to deliver, measure, and improve ads.

Cookies and local storage

  • Essential/local storage: used to remember tool inputs on your device.
  • Analytics cookies (GA4): used to understand site performance; non-essential.
  • Advertising cookies (AdSense): used to serve and personalize ads; non-essential.

How we use information

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its tools.
  • Understand site performance and usage trends (analytics).
  • Show, cap, and measure advertising when AdSense is enabled.
  • Respond to inquiries you send us.
  • Protect the Site from abuse, troubleshoot issues, and comply with legal obligations.

Legal bases for EEA/UK/Swiss visitors

  • Consent for non-essential cookies and trackers (analytics and advertising).
  • Legitimate interests for security logging, fraud prevention, and delivering the content you request.

How we share information

  • Service providers that host our site or help us operate it (e.g., cloud hosting, performance monitoring).
  • Google Analytics (if enabled) for measurement; Google is the processor for this data in our account.
  • Google AdSense (if enabled) to serve and measure ads; Google is a separate controller for advertising data.
  • Authorities or third parties when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in a business transfer.

We do not sell personal information for money. If AdSense personalized ads are enabled, that use can be treated as "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some U.S. state laws; you may opt out (see "Your rights and choices").

Retention

  • On-device tool inputs stay in your browser until you clear them or your browser cache.
  • Server logs are retained by our hosting provider for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
  • Analytics and advertising data are stored by Google according to the retention settings and policies in our accounts; we do not export or combine this data with other datasets.
  • Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to respond and for reasonable recordkeeping.

Your rights and choices

Cookies and consent

We are adding a consent banner for regions where the law requires it so you can accept or reject analytics and advertising cookies. Until that is live, analytics and advertising scripts may load by default; you can block or delete cookies in your browser or send us a request to disable measurement for your visits.

U.S. state privacy rights (e.g., CA, CO, CT, DE, IA, MD, MN, NE, NH, NJ, OR, TX, UT, VA)

Where applicable law grants you rights, you may request to know, access, correct, or delete personal information and to opt out of "sale," "sharing," or targeted advertising. You may also appeal a denied request. Use the contact email below; we will verify your request and respond within required timelines.

EEA/UK/Swiss rights

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection to processing, and you may withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Advertising opt outs

If AdSense is enabled and you want non-personalized ads or to opt out of cross-context advertising, contact us and include the region you are in. We will apply non-personalized ads or disable ads where required and update our records.

International data transfers

We host the Site in the United States and may transfer information to the U.S. and other countries where our providers operate. When required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or similar safeguards for transfers.

Security

We use HTTPS and limit access to systems to protect the Site. No website can be perfectly secure; please use caution when sharing information.

Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date will change when we do. Your continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
