Air duct cleaning FAQ

NADCA-certified air duct cleaning usually means a responsible individual holds the Air Systems Cleaning Specialist credential and the company works to NADCA standards. NADCA certifies people, not companies, so ask who holds the active credential and who will oversee your job.

Air duct cleaning can remove visible mold contamination from bare, hard-surface ductwork, but it will not correct the moisture that allowed growth. Wet or moldy fiberglass duct liner generally needs replacement because porous material cannot be cleaned reliably enough to prevent regrowth.

Air duct cleaning may help when a duct system contains a meaningful source of allergens, such as heavy debris, pest contamination, or confirmed mold. Research does not show that routine duct cleaning prevents health problems or consistently relieves allergies in otherwise normal systems.
